Let's Talk About Private Lessons!

Private Lessons may be suitable for:

  • Dogs who cannot be separated from their owners, i.e. service dogs, dogs with intense medical needs, severe separation anxiety, etc.
  • Owners who enjoy participating in every step of the training process

Overall, private lessons can be helpful to learn about any behavior. There is not really any behavior that would not benefit from a private lesson with a dog trainer.

Private Lessons may NOT be suitable for:

  • Quick results with minimal work on your part
  • Severe dog-on-dog or dog-on-human aggression

What to expect:

  • A private lesson at ours facility about every 2 weeks.
  • A private lesson over zoom about every 2 weeks.
  • If any purchases were recommended to you during your lesson, you’ll receive an email listing the recommended items.
  • Approximately 30 minutes of homework per day. Your dog will only learn as much as you teach him. No homework = no results.

What to bring/prepare:

  • Make a list of the behaviors you’d like to talk about. Sometimes we go down rabbit holes, so it’s helpful to have a list to ensure we cover each topic.

  • Have LOTS of treats ready! There’s no such thing as too many treats. Your treats should meet the following criteria: small, soft, and stinky. No bigger than a skittle!

  • We ask that you use high value food. Milkbones won’t suffice for this! We want something closer to string cheese, hot dog, deli meat, boiled chicken, etc. and cut it up into tiny pieces. You will always use more treats than you think you need!

  • Have your dog’s collar and leash ready, in case we need to review leash walking.

  • If there are any props that would assist the training process, feel free to bring them (i.e. your dog is afraid of grandma’s walker? bring the walker to your lesson).
